Dr. Arif Surani spent time at the University of Guelph studying biological sciences. He went on to Aston University in the UK where he graduated with a Masters of Optometry degree. He returned to Ontario to complete the Optometry Bridging Program at the University of Waterloo and is Board Certified in both the United Kingdom and Canada.
His interest in optometry started at a young age, after shadowing an optometrist and becoming fascinated by the ability to see systemic disease in the eyes such as diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol.
Dr. Surani had the opportunity to carry out an externship at Medical Eye Consultants. He worked alongside a wide range of ophthalmologists, including corneal and retinal specialists, which enhanced his abilities to detect and manage ocular disease. Here, he observed a variety of surgeries, including vitrectomies and cataract extraction.
Dr. Surani is a member of the College of Optometrists of Ontario, the Ontario Association of Optometrists and the American Optometric Association. He is dedicated to providing a high standard of care, with a keen interest in counselling patients on optimizing ocular heath and managing ocular disease.
